I’m not sure who was doing the registration, but she had some major attitude issues, I was signing in 40 minutes prior to the 4A race and she yells at me for being late, I was suppose to be placed 41st at the start, which she put me dead last. I then notice on the results that I was not only in the placing but also as DNS.
The event address was hard to find is all I stated to her for not being earlier, and she jumped on me about not finding it buried in 10 point type at the bottom of the page.
I’m a city dweller, I don’t venture into the burbs at all, it would be nice if the event addresses where clearly stated and not just the name of the event.
    Thanks

      Theo,
You can find directions to all of our races on the schedule page and at the bottom of every race’s BikeReg page. It is not the CCC’s nor the registration table volunteer’s job to make sure you are on time. It is our job to make sure each event stays on schedule. If you are planning your travel time to show up to register 10 minutes before your race closes that’s cutting it a little close.

Also, the reg desk volunteer does not assign your starting position. Our registration program assigns staging positions based on CCC points (prereg & day-of) and CrossResults.com points (pre-reg only if you do NOT have CCC points). Since you were DNS’d first and then added back into the start sheets (and you do not have CCC points) the program does not pick up your CrossResults.com points (which are only assigned at pre-reg). We hope this helps you understand why you were staged where you were.

Thanks for the information, in the rules it states that 30 minutes prior to the race is the cut off, so with 40 minutes I didn’t expect such backlash.
I had accumulated points in the 4Bs, and switched over to the 4As, but guess my points didn’t carry over, I did it within the time frame for the carry over I thought.
I’m new to cyclocross and I’m having a great time, and really appreciate all the effort and work that’s put into every race, I’ll learn as I go.

Thanks for understanding Theo. Our volunteers had been there at the reg table since before 7am that morning, so w/ the rain, cold, and wind they were likely getting tired. Cat 4B points do NOT follow you to the Cat 4A’s because you have not upgraded. See the Series Rules/FAQ page for details.

Another easy way to get directions is to click on the start/finish icon on the course maps that are posted up on Thursdays. There is a “get directions” button on the pop up window that has never let me down.

First lap of the 4B race. Camera angle is a bit high and the color is off from the dwindling light. Still, some choice footage of what it looks like to go from 1st to 13th in one lap. ouch!

And if you start the W4’s behind the 15’s-18’s the front of the women’s field will be all over the back of the Jr’s (in no time) just the same. There is no great solution in some of the mixed fields.

actually it woouldnt be a problem if you start ONLY the 15-18 juniors before the women, they wont catch them, then the younger juniors after the women as usual.

Dear Tomo, yes some women WILL pass the 15-18 Juniors. I know I have passed some when they started the 15-18s in front of us, and that was when i came in 14th so that means 13 other women passed some 15 to 18s as well.

I think what ToMo is suggesting is starting the fastest 50% of the women 4’s (to be determined by a qualifying lap), then the 15-18 jr’s, then the rest of the women 4’s, then (if there is still time) the younger jr’s. this is obviously the best way to do this.

there are also only as much as 5 15-18’s that get passed and that is much easier then the more then 30 we have to pass. We are also much more understanding of passes.

I have never had a problem with the 15-18 year olds passing. They have ALWAYS been polite and have given a warning when they are passing me. When I lap the younger kids, I gently tell them they are doing great and to just stay where they are and I’ll go around them; they get nervous if you tell them left or right. To the women 4’s who have issue with the little ones: be proud that you are involved in a sport that encourages children to be active…if that’s not enough… UPGRADE.

Posted on November 1, 2011 at 1:46 pm

If it’s that troubling, you can always just race your cat, right? Most of the 15-18 Jr’s have probably been at it as long as a lot/most of the Cat 4’s, anyway. Probably longer than a lot of the 3’s, too.

The Cat 4b’s are very understanding of passes, I hear.

          • Lynne
Posted on November 3, 2011 at 5:54 am

After riding in the Women’s 4 field I agree with ToMO….A few women passing a few juniors who know how to get out of the way makes more sense than than a few juniors having to pass 30-40 women who don’t know how to get out of the way. The Cat 4 women are not technically sounds except for the top riders and if a junior gets stuck behind one in a technical section I could understand his frustration.

  • ToMO
Posted on October 31, 2011 at 12:14 pm

I feel that the 15-18’s still need to be started before the women, passing becomes a major problem, especially on technical courses like this when we (the juniors) are trying to fight for and/or hold postions.

Schedules are rarely ever going to make every rider happy. The CCC’s awesome sponsors allow Juniors to race for free in the Juniors categories each week which is a pretty sweet deal. Let’s enjoy our series and continue to cheer each other on and be respectful to each other while out on course and while here on the CCC site. 🙂

The small forest section was awesome with it’s tricky path. You could hear the crowd in there from across the race course when someone pulled off a nice wipe out.

Awesome of Heidi to apply it for everyone, with the exception of Enzo, who had to self apply.
Also thanks to Rob Kelly and the BH crew making great changes to the course, a really fun test of power and skill. Enzo’s course of the year choice is now more difficult.

Here are the photos from the Masters 40+. I will also post them to my website in case anyone wants to purchase prints or digital downloads. I will repost the link to that when I have them uploaded. This is just the Masters 40+ at the moment. I will upload more races throughout the week. Great event! Always fun to photograph!

Great course, love the changes over last year. Good food vendor too.

I have heard that the softball players were surly though.

Thanks Chicross Cup for a great event today! But I have a complaint, its just not fair to those of us that are carnivors, the BBQ place ran out of Pulled pork & only had turkey left when I came up for round 2, this is just not fair to us carnivors, turkey just does not treat the body right it makes you tired & lazy thus taking away from energetic hekling for the 4b’s. Perhaps at future events the BBQ could bring meat on a stick or Brontasoris Burgers…..Contact Fred or Barney if you need some pointers…..
